A new report by the energy think tank Ember highlights that the growth in clean energy successfully met all new global electricity demand last year. This milestone deployment saw clean power account for a record 42.6 percent of global electricity consumption. Solar and wind power drove the vast majority of this expansion, helping to structurally decouple global economic growth from rising carbon dioxide emissions. While Ember expects 2025 to mark a structural turning point toward an decline in fossil fuel dominance, some energy analysts caution that these metrics must still be proven resilient under extreme seasonal weather conditions.
