The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has identified the BA.3.2 variant of COVID-19 in 29 U.S. states and Puerto Rico. While the variant features dozens of new mutations on the spike protein, health experts emphasize that there is currently no evidence of increased clinical severity or higher hospitalization rates. The World Health Organization (WHO) is monitoring the strain, which has already gained a substantial share of cases in parts of Europe.
