The Tshehaye displacement camp in Shire exemplifies the dire humanitarian crisis in Tigray, where approximately 800,000 people remain displaced and face severe shortages of food, water, and medicine. Although the 2022 Pretoria Agreement ended formal high-level conflict, key provisions remain unimplemented, and recent clashes between federal forces and the Tigray Defense Forces signal a potential return to war. Tensions are further exacerbated by the presence of Eritrean troops and the exclusion of the Tigray People’s Liberation Front from upcoming national elections. In regional centers like Mekelle, economic instability and the threat of renewed siege have led to fuel signatures, bank withdrawal limits, and widespread public anxiety. Reegional alliances and border troop movements could soon turn Tigray into the epicenter of a new, larger confrontation.
