The European Commission pledged €700 million to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria for 2027–2029, announced at the One Health Summit in Lyon, representing a €15 million reduction from its previous €715 million contribution. The total amount raised by the Global Fund’s eighth replenishment reached $12.64 billion, falling significantly short of its $18 billion target, while Team Europe’s combined contribution dropped from €4.3 billion to more than €3 billion. Globally, tuberculosis remains the world’s leading cause of death from a single infectious agent, with more than 10.7 million people falling ill and approximately 1.2 million dying from the disease in 2024, according to the latest WHO data.
