As the Iran war drives fuel shortages and currency pressure in India, Pakistan has gained outsized diplomatic visibility by positioning itself as a potential mediator in the conflict. Pakistan’s foreign minister said Islamabad would host US–Iran talks, though neither Washington nor Tehran had publicly confirmed Pakistan’s role at the time. India, on the other hand, has kept to measured messaging, focusing on restraint, energy security and the safety of its diaspora, even as domestic critics argue New Delhi is being outmanoeuvred in narrative and diplomacy. Analysts suggest India’s limited neutrality and cautious posture may reduce its mediation prospects.
